What About Agile?

My services are not just limited to traditionally managed projects. In fact they are very much part of an 'Agile' managed project.

Agile methodologies encourage collaboration between the product owners and the technical teams, but to effectively deal with scope on an Agile project, specifications must be considered in two dimensions: breadth first and then depth. It is essential that there be an understanding of the breadth of what is required to be built early in the project.

I have personally witnessed so-called 'Agile' projects where the scope of requirements has not been defined, and where the product owners have sat alongside developers and the resultant code is what many would call 'spaghetti' code that has no documentation, no structure, extremely hard to understand let alone maintain, full of defects that take months to rectify with fixes that often break other parts of the application. Instead of delivery cycles being shortened, they are lengthened.

The promoters of 'Agile' methodologies would agree that it is essential that the full scope of requirements has been defined and balanced by an overall technical understanding of the solution.

To this end, my services help translate user needs into more technical language for the developers. This step also ensures that requirements are balanced with feasibility.
